Externship Opportunities
The Doctors and staff at Bird Medicine and Surgery welcome student externs into our practice to observe and learn more about veterinary medicine with a focus in avian medicine and surgery. We accept veterinary students, veterinary technician students, undergraduate students, and high school students. Preference is given to Veterinary students in their 3rd or 4th year.
Bird Medicine and Surgery is located in Chesterfield, MO, a suburb of St. Louis.
Externs will shadow our veterinarians through their day, seeing pet birds, dogs, cats, and small exotic mammals (primarily small herbivores). Occasionally, we will see reptiles. Our practice is between 60-80% pet birds, 10-20% dog/cat, and the rest small exotics. Externs will be allowed to participate with exams and treatments on hospitalized patients based on their level of proficiency in handling, restraint, and knowledge of veterinary medicine. Participants with no prior experience will be trained during their time with us.
We have no set housing arrangements, but please notify us if you need help in finding lodging. We may be able to place students with enough notice for a fee.
Please send a current Resume and cover letter to us via email to web@kerstingvet.com or mail to:
